Holidays: yay or nay?

Thanksgiving. Christmas. New Years. It is the season of joy, giving, hope, and celebrations. Turkey, pie, cookies, candy, ham, and champagne. Family, friends, neighbors, strangers. Whichever way you look at it these last months of the year are crazy busy full of our favorite things. Yet, for some people these days are a time of remembering the past- the past that once WAS just so beautiful.

The holidays are hard for some people. Maybe a loved one was lost during this time, maybe finances cause increased stress, or maybe it is just not your thing. How do you deal with the world's excitement with the holidays when it just brings sadness to you.

This should be a time of bonding between families, a time to make new memories and enjoy each others company. Today, family is so close, yet so far away. Technology helps family stay close but then it can also pull people apart.

Growing up, my favorite cousins lived over 12 hours away from me. We only got to see them twice a year: summer and Christmas. I looked forward to getting to see them especially at Christmas because we many of our traditions we did together. Now, as we are older we see each other less and less. College breaks and work just don't coordinate well with schedules. We are just so busy and the time we do get together is great but it is obvious that we are going different directions.

Holidays are still wonderful. Their true meanings are more important than the temporary feelings that come. I'm sorry that for some it is a difficult time, but I rejoice with those who are able to experience the joy and truth these holidays bring. I think everyone can find some hope in these special times despite how terrible they perceive the world or their life to be.

Life is truly just as you make it. Believe there is good in this world and live it out. Learn who your family is during these holidays and appreciate what they have done for you- it's worth it. Happy Holidays!
